
Getting Your IR Lamps Right for Sidel SBO and Matrix Systems
Nobody wants to spend their shift fighting with an oven. When you’re managing a fleet of PET blow molders, the last thing you need is a “replacement” lamp that forces you to rewire the whole system or spend hours tinkering with the chassis. You just want it to work.
The fit matters (more than you think)
Here is the thing: for a lamp to actually be a “drop-in” replacement, it has to be a perfect match. I’m talking exact wattage and voltage. If you get this wrong, you’re looking at lamps burning out way too early or preforms that heat up unevenly. We’re obsessive about the details. We spec our quartz tubes to the exact length and connector type—whether you’re using a standard R7s or a specialized SK15. Why? Because if the contact points are off by even a single millimeter, you risk arcing at the terminals. And that’s a headache you just don’t need.
Heat that actually hits the mark
We use shortwave IR because it gets the job done fast. It punches through the PET wall quickly, which keeps your cycle times lean. The goal is a tight thermal window. You want enough heat density to soften the preform, but not so much that you start melting the neck. It’s a delicate balance. One quick tip: when you’re running these lamps at full tilt, your oven’s ventilation has to keep up. Keep your airflow clear. If you don’t, you’ll end up baking your reflectors, and that’s a costly mistake.
Swapping them out without the drama
We built these to work across the Sidel range, period. You won’t have to mess with the wiring harness or modify the chassis. Since we mirror the OEM dimensions, you can swap a lamp during a scheduled stop and get right back to production. No custom brackets. No weird adapters. Just pull the old tube, plug in the new one, calibrate your PID controllers, and you’re back in business. Simple.
