Most heaters try to fix this by warming up the air. The problem? That takes forever. By the time the room is warm, you’re already dressed and gone. That’s why we use short-wave infrared (SWIR) tech. Instead of fighting the air, it beams heat directly at you and the mirror. It’s instant. How it actually works Inside the unit, there’s a tungsten filament tucked into a high-purity quartz tube. The nitty-gritty on the build To get that high-end, cozy feel, we use high-wattage lamps. We fill them with halogen gas so the filament doesn’t burn out too quickly, and the quartz casing makes sure the heat gets out without getting trapped inside. You can hide these behind the mirror or mount them in the ceiling. Just a heads-up: if you’re putting these in a steamy bathroom, make sure your housing is rated for moisture. Also, since these get quite hot, you’ll want tempered glass. Regular mirrors might not handle that kind of localized heat and could crack. The trade-off Here’s the thing: short-wave heaters are incredibly fast, but they have a short reach. If you step two feet away, you’ll notice the warmth drop off pretty quickly. Because of that, placement is everything. You have to put the emitters exactly where you’ll be standing. Plus, since they’re so powerful in a small space, we usually suggest adding a motion sensor or a simple timer. That way, you don’t accidentally turn your dressing area into a sauna.
